The Los Angeles Dodgers are nearing a major addition that should make them the favorites in the National League.

A trade that would send Baltimore Orioles All-Star shortstop Manny Machado to the Dodgers is happening, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Baltimore is expected to receive a package of prospects that includes 21-year-old outfielder Yusniel Diaz.

It was reported earlier Tuesday that the Orioles have the structure of a deal in place for the All-Star shortstop and were going through medical reports of the pieces involved. It's believed the trade could take place as soon as Wednesday, as the Orioles want Machado to represent the organization in the All-Star Game.

The Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Yankees were the other teams heavily linked to Machado, who's the best position player believed to be available at the trade deadline.

It's expected that Machado would serve as the Dodgers' shortstop, which should please the impending free agent, as he's been adamant that's the position he intends to market himself at during free agency this winter. Los Angeles could shift Chris Taylor back to the outfield or second base after he had been playing shortstop following a season-ending injury to Corey Seager in May.
