Report: Athletics agree to 1-year deal with Cahill
Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Trevor Cahill is reportedly back where it all began.

The veteran right-hander agreed to a one-year deal with the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, a source told Jane Lee of MLB.com.

Selected in the second round of the 2006 draft by the Athletics, Cahill spent his first three seasons in the majors with Oakland before he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The nine-year veteran spent last season split between the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals, where he posted a 4.93 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts in 84 innings (21 starts).

Cahill served in both the rotation and in relief last season, but will most likely compete for a starting role after Jharel Cotton went down with an injury earlier this week and will undergo Tommy John surgery.
