Yankees deem Judge's 'You'd look good in pinstripes' comment to Machado inappropriate
The league contacted the Yankees on Wednesday after the slugger told reporters that he suggested to Baltimore Orioles star and impending free agent Manny Machado that he would look good in pinstripes next season.
"We have been in contact with the Yankees. They communicated to us that Mr. Judge's off-the-cuff comments were not appropriate and not authorized by the club," the league said in its statement, according to ESPN. "They will speak to him to make sure that this does not happen again."
Judge and Machado crossed paths on the bases earlier in the day, and that's where the reigning American League Rookie of the Year suggested the Yankees as a potential landing spot.
"We talked a little bit, and I just asked him how his offseason was, how everything was going," Judge said afterward. "I asked him how he liked short and said, 'You'd look pretty good in pinstripes, too.'"
Judge added that Machado laughed off the suggestion.
The Yankees were linked to Machado earlier this winter as a potential trade destination, but Orioles owner Peter Angeleos reportedly refused to deal the three-time All-Star to one of his main rivals.
