Having lost out on bringing J.D. Martinez back, the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a two-year contract with outfielder Jarrod Dyson. The deal is reportedly worth $7.5 million, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Dyson, 33, spent the 2017 season with the Seattle Mariners, posting a .251/.324/.350 slash line with 28 stolen bases.

The natural center fielder joins an outfield corps consisting of David Peralta, Yasmany Tomas, and star A.J. Pollock in center.

Arizona broke out in 2017 thanks in part to trading for Martinez halfway through the season. In 62 games with the Diamondbacks, the slugger starred with 29 home runs, helping the club make it to the National League Division Series.

A report surfaced Monday suggesting the Boston Red Sox and Martinez had agreed to a deal, leaving a reunion between Arizona and the outfielder out of the question.

While Dyson has managed below-average production at the plate over his career, the speedy outfielder joins the best baserunning team in the senior circuit, according to FanGraphs. Over the past two seasons, Dyson has saved 24.5 runs with his defense, and created 11 runs with his baserunning.
