Boras calls Boston's reported $100M offer for Martinez 'not accurate'

The Boston Red Sox did not make a five-year, $100-million offer to free-agent outfielder J.D. Martinez - at least, not according to his agent, Scott Boras.

It was reported earlier Wednesday that Boston's offer fell within the nine-figure range, though Boras told Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports those rumors were "not accurate."

At the beginning of the offseason, it was believed Boras set the asking price for Martinez at $210 million over seven seasons. However, that deal appears unobtainable as no position player has signed for more than three years, $60-million this winter (Carlos Santana), while Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer, and Mike Moustakas have yet to land a deal.

The Red Sox have been tied to Martinez throughout the offseason, as the club wishes to add a power bat. The 30-year-old slugger certainly fits the bill, as he's coming off a season in which he hit a career-high 45 homers.

Despite the need, Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has said he would be fine heading into spring training with the current roster.
