Boston Red Sox right-hander Steven Wright was arrested on Friday for domestic assault, according to multiple reports.
"We are aware of the incident involving Steven. This is certainly a matter that the Red Sox take very seriously. It is my understanding that both local police and Major League Baseball are looking into this and for that reason, the club won’t have any further comment at this time," the Red Sox said in a statement, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.
Wright, an All-Star with the Red Sox in 2016, missed most of the past season after undergoing surgery on his left knee to repair cartilage damage. In five starts, he combined to an 8.25 ERA and 1.87 WHIP. The 33-year-old is under contract with the team until 2021.
