Report: Rangers showing 'sustained interest' in Cobb, Lynn
The Texas Rangers finally broke baseball's silence on Sunday by reportedly signing right-hander Doug Fister to a one-year contract. They may not be done.
Looking to further bolster their starting rotation, the Rangers are showing "sustained interest" in free-agent hurlers Alex Cobb and Lance Lynn, sources tell MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
This isn't the first time Cobb has been linked to the Rangers, but he's also expected to be one of the more sought-after chips on the market. In his first full season after Tommy John surgery in 2015, Cobb went 12-10 with a 3.66 ERA and 128 strikeouts across 179 1/3 innings. He's spent his entire six-year career with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Lynn also returned to full-time action after missing all of 2016. He made 33 starts in 2017, going 11-8 with a 3.43 ERA with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Both pitchers rejected qualifying offers, and would earn their former teams a compensatory draft pick for signing elsewhere.
