Hill stepped off mound so crowd could boo Gurriel: 'That was my silent gesture'
During Yuli Gurriel's first game at Dodger Stadium since making a racist gesture after hitting a home run off Yu Darvish, the home crowd let the Houston Astros first baseman hear it - and Rich Hill facilitated.
Hill stepped off the mound before Gurriel's first at-bat, allowing the Dodgers' crowd to shower him with boos.
"That was my silent gesture," Hill told Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times, explaining that Gurriel's insult toward Darvish deserved condemnation.
McCullough earlier reported that Hill made his displeasure with Gurriel's gesture public.
Gurriel was handed a five-game suspension by the league, but won't begin serving it until the beginning of the 2018 season, as commissioner Rob Manfred believed it would be unfair to penalize the other 24 Astros in the World Series. Gurriel won't appeal.
