In the waning moments before the trade deadline, the Cincinnati Reds sent Tony Cingrani to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the club announced.
In exchange, the Reds received Scott Van Slyke and Hendrik Clementina.
The left-handed Cingrani has a 5.40 ERA and 7.01 FIP in 23 1/3 innings this season and joins fellow southpaw Tony Watson as Dodgers additions right up against the deadline to help bolster their bullpen.
The 31-year-old Van Slyke has put together a .122/.250/.293 slash line in 48 big-league plate appearances in 2017, though the outfielder has spent the majority of the season in Triple-A.
Clementina, a 20-year-old catching prospect, slashed .370/.439/.554 in 24 rookie-ball games this season.
Up until the last minutes of Monday's trade deadline, the Dodgers appeared to be the frontrunners to acquire elite left-handed reliever Zach Britton from the Baltimore Orioles. However, the Orioles held on to Britton, which led the Dodgers to pick up both Watson and Cingrani on less expensive deals.
The 28-year-old Cingrani was considered the third-best prospect in the Reds' system prior to the 2013 season, according to Baseball America, but failed to acclimate as a starter and has worked exclusively out of the bullpen for the past two seasons.
