Verlander's rough outing halts historic strikeout streak
Raj Mehta / USA TODAY Sports
Up against the division rival Cleveland Indians, Justin Verlander lasted only 3 1/3 innings on Sunday, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits and three walks while failing to strike out an opponent.
It's the first time the Detroit Tigers' ace has failed to record a punch out since April 28, 2007 - a stretch that lasted 331 consecutive games and puts Verlander in elite company.
Verlander's streak ties him with Curt Schilling on the all-time leaderboard:
Pitcher | Games | Ks |
---|---|---|
Nolan Ryan | 382 | 2673 |
Randy Johnson | 351 | 2937 |
Javier Vazquez | 349 | 2093 |
Dwight Gooden | 349 | 2053 |
Josh Beckett | 335 | 1901 |
Curt Schilling | 331 | 2435 |
Justin Verlander | 331 | 2137 |
