Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez was forced to leave Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers after he and outfielder Jason Heyward slid into one another in a botched attempt to catch a fly ball.

It appears that Heyward's elbow connected with the side of Baez's head as they slid into one another. A welt formed around Baez's left eye, but he left under his own power alongside Cubs manager Joe Maddon.

The Cubs later announced that Baez had suffered a left eye contusion.

In a somewhat ominous coincidence, Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber injured his knee on April 7, 2016, exactly one year ago Friday night.
