Indians troll Blue Jays for 'shaking in his boots' quote

Cleveland Indians / Twitter

The Cleveland Indians' Twitter account continued its impressive postseason Wednesday with a cheeky jab at the expense of the Toronto Blue Jays' offense.

Less than 24 hours after Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista said Indians rookie Ryan Merritt would be "shaking in his boots" pitching against Toronto's vaunted lineup in Game 5, the young lefty put the finishing touches on a brilliant, yet brief, 4 1/3 inning shutout performance.

After Merritt - who happens to be a native of McKinney, Texas - induced a 6-4-3 double play against Edwin Encarnacion to end the fourth, Cleveland's witty social media team wasted no time in throwing shade on Bautista's bulletin-board quote.

Merritt retired the first 10 batters he faced and pitched into the fifth, before a bloop single by Russell Martin ended the 24-year-old's outing. In his first career playoff start, Merritt struck out three, allowed two hits, and exited with a 3-0 lead.
