Diaz, Fernandez friendship highlighted in childhood ballpark photo

Years before either played in Major League Baseball, Aledmys Diaz and Jose Fernandez grew up dreaming about it on the same street, just two doors down from one another in Santa Clara, Cuba.

Tuesday night, MLB posted a photo of the young players, both highlighted in the front row.

Diaz, 26, hit his first career grand slam on Tuesday night, after the St. Louis Cardinals shortstop was too distraught to play Sunday after learning of Fernandez's death. Diaz flew to Miami to be with Fernandez's mother and grandmother at their home.
