The Los Angeles Angels have designated scrappy second baseman Johnny Giavotella for assignment, the club announced Saturday.

The moves comes as part of a slew of transactions, as the Angels recalled Kaleb Cowart, reinstated C.J. Cron from the disabled list, and placed Yunel Escobar on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

In his second year with the Angels, Giavotella was batting .260/.287/.376 with six homers in 99 games this season.

In 2015, he had the best season of his six-year career, slashing .272/.318/.375 with four homers, 25 doubles, 49 RBIs, and 32 walks in 129 games.
