Watch: Baez cranks walk-off blast in 13-inning marathon

Javier Baez was the hero on Mother's Day.

After 13 innings, 10 pitchers, and six Bryce Harper walks, the Chicago Cubs took down the Washington Nationals 4-3 in extra innings.

For Baez, it was his second home run of the year, and he was one of the few players that didn't see his batting average slide dramatically Sunday.

"You can see how much power he's got ... That had rockets on it, and that was really well struck," manager Joe Madden told reporters of the game-winning home run.

Baez, who went 1-for-3 in the contest, sat on a slider from hard-throwing right-hander Blake Treinen, and took him yard for the game-winner.

"I was just trying to get on base and get a good pitch to hit. That guy throws hard you know, 97 with sink," Baez told reporters in postgame comments. "After that second strike I sat on the slider because they've been throwing it to me this year a lot and I was just looking for that pitch."

With the victory, the Cubs matched their best start (24-6) to a season since 1907.
