A fan has been seriously hurt at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay after being struck in the left eye area by a foul ball during Friday's game between the Chicago White Sox and Rays.
The fan was taken out of the stands and placed on a stretcher, and then to hospital, after a liner off the bat of Steven Souza appeared to find its way through a small gap in the netting behind home plate.

Major League Baseball recommended new measures to protect fans with expanded netting prior to the season after several fans were hurt by foul balls in and around home plate.
