Billy Hamilton doesn't do anything at a slow pace.
After smacking his first home run of the season Monday, Hamilton zipped around the bases in 16.2 seconds, according to StatCast, breaking his own record of 16.5 seconds set last season. Hamilton's sprint reached a max speed of 20.1 miles per hour, and the homer marked his first since Aug. 13, 2015.
"I didn't know it was a home run," Hamilton told MLB.com. "If you don't know it's a home run, you can't expect it to be home run when you don't hit home runs. My motto is, 'If that ball falls, I'm trying to get an inside the park home run.' I'm going full speed all the time. If it falls at the wall, I won't be standing on first base."
Despite his new record, Hamilton's been slow to perform out of the gate, batting .176/.300/.412 with just one stolen base through seven games. The speedy center fielder stole 57 bases last season, the second-most in the majors behind Miami's Dee Gordon.
