 Today's doubleheader will be Cincinnati's first games since Friday, when a player tested positive for the coronavirus. The Royals have won 12 of the last 16 games in the series going back to 2009, with the teams splitting a two-game set in Cincinnati last week.

 Each of Kansas City's last nine games has been decided by three or fewer runs, the longest such streak by any MLB team this year. The Royals are 5-4 over that stretch, and 7-10 this year in games decided by three or fewer -- the second-most such games (17) in MLB (Twins, 19).

 The Reds have hit two or more home runs in each of their last eight home games, one shy of the club and National League record of nine straight set in May/June 2005. The MLB record is 12 straight multi-homer games at home by the Mariners in September 1995.

 Over his last five games, Jesse Winker is 11-for-16 (.688) with five home runs, seven RBI and a 2.487 OPS. He now leads the majors with a 1.196 OPS this season while ranking second (first in NL) with a .712 slugging percentage.

 With today's start, all five of Luis Castillo's outings this year will have been against American League teams. The only other pitcher whose first five starts in a season all came in interleague play was Johan Santana with the 2002 Twins.

 Whit Merrifield has an MLB-high 425 hits since the start of the 2018 season. He's hitting .240 in 75 career interleague games, compared to .305 against American League opponents.

The Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals will play a doubleheader Wednesday, as a result of the postponement of Tuesday's scheduled game.
In the first game, the Reds will send Luis Castillo to the mound to face the Royals' Brad Keller. Both pitchers will be starting against the same opponent as they did in their last starts in Cincinnati last week, which happened to be their first career appearance against that opponent.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)  Trevor Bauer pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Kansas City Royals 5-0 on Wednesday night to split a doubleheader marked by strong starting pitching.
In the opener of the two seven-inning games, Brad Keller didn't allow a hit until the sixth and extended his shutout streak, leading the Royals to a 4-0 win.
