 The Twins took two of three games at Wrigley Field over the weekend, holding the Cubs to two total runs in the series. Minnesota's pitchers have allowed 57 home runs this season, tied with Oakland for the fewest in baseball.

 The Tigers dropped three of four games at home to Cleveland over the weekend, scoring a total of 12 runs. Through Sept. 1, Tigers hitters were batting .255 with a .760 OPS, 12th best in baseball. Since Sept. 2, however, Detroit is batting .220 with an MLB-worst .607 OPS.

Right-hander Kenta Maeda takes the mound for his final playoff tune-up as the Minnesota Twins try to complete a sweep of their two-game series with the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night in Minneapolis.
Maeda (5-1, 2.52 ERA) is 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA in three career starts against the Tigers but has pitched well at Target Field, where he is 2-0 with a 1.33 ERA in four career starts. He'll be opposed by rookie right-hander Casey Mize (0-2, 6.08) who has a pair of no-decisions with a 6.43 ERA in two career starts against Minnesota.

Twins turn to Maeda with shot at sweep of Tigers, Central lead

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)  Jake Cave hit a pair of home runs, Kenta Maeda finished off his regular season with another strong start and the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 7-6 on Wednesday night to take over sole possession of the AL Central lead for the first time since late August.
Eddie Rosario added a two-run homer for Minnesota (35-22), which has won four straight. The Twins moved a half-game ahead of the second-place Chicago White Sox (34-22).
