 The Diamondbacks won three of four games against the Angels when these teams last met in 2018, their first season-series win over Los Angeles since 2001. Arizona is 7-6 all-time at Los Angeles, its fifth-best road mark against any American League club.

 The Diamondbacks lost their three-game home series with the Mariners after dropping games two and three by identical 7-3 scorelines. Arizona returns to the road where they are 1-11 in their last twelve games, having scored more than three runs just once in that span (6-5 win at the Giants).

 The Angels won the last two games of a three-game set against the Rockies, their first back-to-back wins in interleague play since sweeping a two-game series with the Dodgers in July 2019. Only the Pirates (4-19) have a worse record in interleague games since the start of last August than the Halos (5-12).

 The starting pitchers for this matchup, Madison Bumgarner and Julio Teheran, are both winless this season with ERAs over 7.50 (Bumgarner: 0-4, 7.52 ERA and Teheran: 0-3, 8.23 ERA). Bumgarner has never faced the Angels in his career while Teheran is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA against Arizona.

 Former-Angel Kole Calhoun leads the Diamondbacks with nine home runs this season. Calhoun hit 68 career home runs in Angel Stadium with Los Angeles from 2012 to 2019. Only Mike Trout (140) and Albert Pujols (104) hit more homers at the ballpark over that span.

 Albert Pujols hit career home run number 660 in the last game against Colorado, pulling even with Willie Mays for fifth on the all-time home runs chart. Pujols' 66 home runs in interleague games is the most in MLB history, two ahead of Jim Thome's 64.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)  Although the Los Angeles Angels probably will miss the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year, their offense is finally performing up to its pedigree and looking like one of the AL's best.
Manager Joe Maddon hopes that's good news for a brighter future amid the Angels' fairly dismal present.
