 The Rays are 5-1 against Boston this year, including a four-game sweep the last time they met (August 10-13 in Fenway Park) in which they scored 8+ runs in each game (42 total). Tampa Bay's longest win streak all-time against the Red Sox is six games, done in both 2011 and 2019.

 Tampa Bay lost both games of a two-game set with the Nationals earlier this week, its first time losing back-to-back games since a five-game losing streak ending on August 2.

 Boston has an MLB-high 6.17 ERA, which would be the highest by any team since the Tigers posted a 6.38 ERA in 1999. Since ERA became an official stat in 1913, Boston has ranked last in the majors in ERA three times (1932, 1960 and 1965), while never finishing with an ERA higher than 5.02 (1932).

Boston Red Sox pitcher Martin Perez is looking to make his second time at Tropicana Field this season even more of a charm than the first.
Perez (2-4, 4.40 ERA) will close the season series Sunday afternoon for Boston when the Red Sox (16-31) try to even the four-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays and earn a split in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Boston's Perez looks to lock down Tampa Bay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)  Christian Vazquez and Christian Arroyo homered to help the last-place Boston Red Sox get a split of a four-game series with the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays with a 6-3 victory on Sunday.
Martin Perez (3-4) gave up three runs and five hits over five innings. Matt Barnes, the fourth Boston reliever, worked the ninth to get his sixth save.
