 Oakland's 21-9 record against AL West opponents this year is the best by any MLB team against its own division. That includes a 5-1 mark against the Rangers, having outscored them 32-16 in those contests.

 The A's are the only AL West team that doesn't currently have a losing record, and their 6.5-game lead in the division is the largest by any of the divisional leaders. Oakland hasn't won the division since doing so in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2013.

 The Rangers took two out of three games from the Angels this week, ending a streak of seven consecutive series lost -- tied for the longest in MLB this year (Arizona has an active seven-series streak).

 Isiah Kiner-Falefa is one of two MLB players leading their team outright (no ties) in base hits, runs scored and stolen bases, along with Washington's Trea Turner. The last Texas player to lead the team outright in those three categories was Otis Nixon in 1995.

 Matt Olson leads the A's in homers (12) and RBI (31) despite a .193 batting average. Among MLB players with a sub-.200 batting average, Olson is tied for first in homers (Eugenio Suarez, Cin) while ranking first in RBI.

 Mike Fiers has a 23-8 (.742) record with the A's since making his first start with the club on August 20, 2018. That's the third-best record by any AL pitcher with at least 25 decisions over that span, behind Justin Verlander (26-7, .788) and Gerrit Cole (28-8, .778).

The Oakland Athletics seek to continue the momentum they've built over the past two weeks and increase their division lead when they face the reeling Texas Rangers in a doubleheader on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
Saturday's second contest was necessitated when the two American League West rivals chose not to play their scheduled game on Aug. 27 in support of protests that had arisen against racial injustice after the Aug. 23 police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis.

Athletics roaring as they head into DH versus Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  Right after the Oakland Athletics bounced back in a big way, the AL West leaders got yet another bit of bad news.
Marcus Semien drove in four runs, Chris Bassitt struck out eight over six innings and the A's beat the Texas Rangers 10-1 on Saturday night to get a split in their doubleheader. That followed a 5-2 loss in the opener, hours after finding out that All-Star third baseman Matt Chapman is having surgery and expected to miss the rest of the season.
