 The Mets defeated the Yankees, 9--7, in 10 innings last night on Pete Alonso's game-ending home run.  It was the Mets' first walkoff homer in the 24-year regular-season series between the New York City rivals.

 The Phillies swept a four-game series from the Nationals this week without committing an error.  It was the first time Philadelphia played errorless ball over four straight wins since the first four games of 2019.

 Five years ago, Jake Arrieta went 22--6 to win the NL Cy Young Award; a year later, Rick Porcello won the AL Cy Young Award with a 22--4 mark. No pitcher has won as many as 22 games in a season since then. But they are among the 15 pitchers with an ERA of 6.00+ in 6+ starts in 2020: Arrieta 6.49, Porcello 6.00.

 With 61 home runs in 198 games, Pete Alonso already holds the National League record for most homers in a player's first 200 games in the majors, a mark previously shared by Ryan Howard and Ryan Braun (56).  Alonso enters the weekend tied with Aaron Judge for the MLB record in that category.

 Rhys Hoskins has hit seven home runs since Aug. 18, tying Marcell Ozuna for the NL lead during that time (one fewer than MLB leader Jose Abreu).  Prior to Aug. 18, Hoskins had no home runs in 16 games,

 Bryce Harper has hit only two home runs in his last 32 games against the Mets, dating back to July 2018 (113 AB).  Harper's total of 13 homers against the Mets from 2014--17 was the second highest in the majors during that time, behind only Giancarlo Stanton (23).

The Philadelphia Phillies would be quite pleased if Spencer Howard continues to develop into a solid fifth starter, but their rotation depth provides them some margin for error in case Howard endures rookie struggles.
The New York Mets not only need Seth Lugo to continue turning into their second-best starter, they can't afford for him not to do so.

Mets, Phillies turn to surprising starting pitchers

NEW YORK (AP)  Since getting out of the bullpen, Seth Lugo has brought needed relief to the New York Mets' rotation.
Lugo earned the first win by a Mets starter in more than three weeks, Phillies star Bryce Harper screamed in an umpire's face after being ejected for arguing over a foul ball, and New York beat Philadelphia 5-1 Saturday night.
