These teams split their first two games of the season series, with Miami winning the last matchup, 14-11, in 10 innings on Aug. 12. In that game, the Jays became the first team in MLB history to have at least 18 hits and seven homers in a loss.

The Blue Jays have the fourth-worst OBP in interleague games at .298, while the Marlins have the second worst at .276, ahead of only the Pirates at .273. Miami has a .329 OBP against its own league.

The Jays are third in the majors in scoring a runner from third base with fewer than two outs via an RBI at 63.3 (MLB average is 52.3 percent). The Marlins have the fourth-lowest rate in the majors in allowing an opponent to score in such situations at 44.6 percent.

Randal Grichuk is batting .160 without an extra-base hit in seven games against NL teams this season. Since the start of last year, Grichuk has 17 homers in 105 games before August for an average of one home run for every 23.71 at-bats, compared to 23 home runs in 75 games in August and after for an average of one homer in every 13.09 at-bats.

Hyun Jin Ryu is only the fourth Toronto pitcher in franchise history to have a five-start stretch in a single season of pitching at least five innings while allowing an earned run or less in each outing, joining Roy Halladay in 2005, Roger Clemens in 1997 and Dave Stieb in 1983. No Jays pitcher has made six starts in a row of 5+ innings while yielding an earned run or less in a single season.

Jonathan Villar is batting .174 with no outs, but his average jumps to .387 with two outs. Among batting qualifiers, that increase in batting average of .213 from no outs to two outs is the largest in MLB.

Jonathan Villar is returning from New York on a flight back to Miami -- but he's doing so while no longer a member of the Marlins.
Villar, who can play second base, shortstop, third and all three outfield spots, was traded during the Marlins' Monday game, a 5-3 win over the host New York Mets.

Villar joins Jays in time to face former team, Marlins

MIAMI (AP)  Starling Marte celebrated his Miami debut with a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, helping the Marlins top the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Marte, who was acquired in a trade with Arizona on Monday, drove a 1-0 pitch from Shun Yamaguchi (1-3) deep to left-center for his third homer. He also reached on an error in the sixth and scored from first on Garrett Cooper's double.
