The Reds took two of three in this season's first series from Aug. 7-9, with Cincinnati pitchers striking out 36 batters. It was Milwaukee's most strikeouts in a three-game series against the Reds, one more than they had in a season-ending series in Cincinnati in 2010.

Trevor Bauer, Monday's scheduled starter, struck out 12 Brewers on Aug. 7, and is the first pitcher in the modern era to strike out at least 40 batters while allowing two runs or fewer over his first four starts of a season. He is the first pitcher since Dontrelle Willis in 2005 to throw two shutouts in his first four starts.

The Reds, who are last in MLB in batting at .207, are 1-for-21 (.048) with runners in scoring position in their last six games. This is their first six-game stretch with one or fewer hits with runners in scoring position with at least 20 at-bats in such situations since going 1-for-28 (.036) from Aug. 10-16, 1993.

Jesse Winker had five hits in the Milwaukee series two weeks ago, and since Aug. 6 has a .429/.538/.952 slash line. The rest of Cincinnati's lineup in that same span is slashing .184/.284/.350.

The Brewers are averaging 4.00 runs, tied with the Indians and Cardinals for the third worst in the majors. Last season, Milwaukee averaged 4.75 runs, and that drop-off in runs per game of 0.75 trails only a 0.84 drop-off from 2012-13 for the largest decline from one season to the next for the Brewers since 2000.

Christian Yelich is batting .310 against AL teams but just .141 against NL clubs. That drop-off in batting average of .169 from hitting against AL teams to NL teams is the fifth-largest decline by an NL hitter among batting qualifiers.

Justin Smoak homered and drove in three runs as Milwaukee cooled off Trevor Bauer and snapped a four-game skid with a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.
