 Miami started its 2018 season at 5--17, started last year at 4--15, didn't spend a day above .500 in either year, and ended last year at 57--105. It's now MLB's first team since the 1899 St. Louis Perfectos (who became the Cardinals the next year) to win at least six of its first seven games after losing 105+ games the previous year.

 Miami's sweep in Baltimore was its first in a 4-game series since sweeping the Dodgers in L.A. in April 2016.  After the Mets series, the Marlins travel to Buffalo to face the Blue Jays, before finally playing their home opener in Miami next Friday against the Braves.

 Sandy Alcantara made five starts against the Mets last year, tying Patrick Corbin for the most in MLB.  He was the only pitcher to throw a complete game against the Mets last season; he did that on May 19, tossing a 2-hit, 1-walk shutout in Miami. He limited Pete Alonso to 1-for-11 (solo HR), but with 3 HBPs.

 The Mets are batting only .218 (26th in MLB) with runners in scoring position, and.148 (28th in MLB) with runners in scoring position and two outs. Marlins pitchers have held opponents to MLB-low batting averages in both of those categories: .128 (6-for-47) and .045 (1-for-22), respectively.

 Michael Wacha, 60--40 in his career, is one of just 13 active MLB pitchers with a winning percentage of .600 or better in a career of 100+ decisions. (Others: Kershaw, Strasburg, Scherzer, Price, Cole, Lester, Verlander, Tanaka, Wainwright, Kluber, Greinke, Rich Hill.) Wacha has the highest career ERA (3.93) among that group.

 Michael Conforto batted .440 (22 for 50) in 15 games vs. Miami last season, with 8 homers and 17 RBIs (along with 16 runs scored and 13 walks).  No other major league player reached each of those levels in the Triple Crown categories (.440, 8, 17) against any opposing team in either of the last two seasons.

NEW YORK (AP)  Jacob deGrom dodged trouble for five innings, rookie Andres Gimenez had three hits and scored three runs, and the New York Mets won a home series for the first time this season by beating the Miami Marlins 4-2 on Sunday.
DeGrom (2-0) allowed two runs and seven hits, marking the 25th time in his past 27 starts he permitted three runs or fewer. He struck out six, walked two and threw 98 pitches.
