 Nick Markakis, making his first start of the 2020 season, hit a game-ending solo home run to give the Braves a 4--3 win over the Blue Jays last night.  Markakis also hit a walkoff home run in his first start in 2018—a three-run tie-breaking homer on opening day against the Phillies.

 Hector Neris saved both of the Phillies' wins against the Yankees this week without allowing a run. But the rest of Philadelphia's bullpen has struggled, compiling an 8.84 ERA to date (19 ER in 19.1 IP).

 Vince Velasquez defeated the Braves the last time he faced them (5 IP, 2 ER on Sept. 17, 2019).  Prior to that, Velasquez had an 0--6 record with a 5.36 ERA in 11 appearances against the Braves.

 Kyle Wright is 0--4 with a 9.13 ERA in six starts for Atlanta.  Only three other pitchers were winless with an ERA of 9.00 or higher in their first six starts for the Braves: Rosy Ryan (1925), Dick Donovan (1950--52), and Jo-Jo Reyes (2007).  Donovan went on to become a 5-time AL All-Star and the 1961 AL ERA leader.

 Ronald Acuna Jr. has only one home run in 53 at-bats this season, compared to one per 15.8 ABs in 2018--19.  Acuna's only homer this season was on a 0--0 count; he ranked 7th in MLB with 16 first-pitch HRs over his first two seasons.

 Phil Gosselin has six hits, including two home runs, in 10 at-bats this season.  Gosselin homered only once in 174 ABs during parts of three seasons with the Braves (2013--15).

The Philadelphia Phillies took advantage of Friday's postponement to realign their starting rotation for the four-game series against the visiting Atlanta Braves.
The Phillies opted to keep Jake Arrieta as Saturday's starter and push Vince Velasquez, Friday's scheduled starter, to pitch one game of Sunday's doubleheader. That means Arrieta (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will face Atlanta's Kyle Wright (0-1, 7.50), a former first-round draft choice the club hopes can nail down a spot in the team's unsettled rotation, in the series opener.

PHILADELPHIA (AP)  Jake Arrieta pitched like the healthy ace the Phillies needed for three years. He could help Philadelphia make some noise in the National League playoff push -- to the delight of a cluster of fans with horns, drums and chants from outside the park that produced a needed summer soundtrack.
Arrieta tossed six shutout innings for his first win in more than a year and Jay Bruce and J.T. Realmuto each homered to lead the Phillies past the Atlanta Braves 5-0 Saturday night.
