The Braves took three for four games from the Blue Jays last season, including both games played in Atlanta. Toronto has homered in all six games it has played at Truist Park, outhomering Atlanta 11-5 across the six games, but is just 2-4 at that stadium.

The Blue Jays haven't played a game since July 30, a 6-4 loss in Washington with Toronto batting second as the home team. The Blue Jays hit nine home runs, all solo shots, over the four games played in Washington, accounting for 69.2 percent (9/13) of their total runs against the Nationals.

The Braves took three of four games from the Mets in Atlanta, bringing their record to 7-4. All 11 of Atlanta's games have been against the Mets (7, 5-2) and Rays (4, 2-2). Atlanta is hitting .341 (15/44) as a team with runners in scoring position and two outs, second best in MLB (StL, .353).

Bo Bichette has a hit in all four games he has played this season, all from the leadoff spot. He has a .286 batting average (6/21) but has drawn zero walks or hit-by-pitches. The only batter with more plate appearances as the leadoff hitter this season and also no free passes is Amed Rosario (NYM, 24).

Max Fried has earned the win in all four career interleague starts, which includes his most recent outing against Tampa Bay. Fried became the fourth Brave to win four consecutive starts against AL teams along with Greg Maddux, Horacio Ramirez and Tommy Hanson. None of the others got the win in five straight.

Matt Shoemaker allowed one earned run and three hits against the Rays on July 25, his first start for the Blue Jays since April 20, 2019. The Jays lost the game, 4-1 though Shoemaker didn't factor in the decision, marking Toronto's first loss in a Shoemaker start (5-1).

With their young starting rotation loaded with question marks, the Atlanta Braves will get another look at Sean Newcomb on Wednesday when they host the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of a three-game series.
The Braves lost ace Mike Soroka to a season-ending Achilles injury on Monday and earlier designated former All-Star Mike Foltynewicz for assignment because of concern over his loss of velocity. That leaves Max Fried, who started and won on Tuesday, as the only bona fide member of the rotation and places Newcomb among the young contenders with the opportunity to fill the other slots.

ATLANTA (AP)  Hyun-Jin Ryu combined with four relievers on a three-hitter and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the shorthanded Atlanta Braves 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Ryu lasted only five innings but was dominant as he gave up only one hit, an infield single by Adam Duvall in the second.
