The A's won 13 of the 19 meetings with the Rangers last season, including seven straight from July 27 to September 21 in which they outscored Texas, 59-28. Oakland has won the season series in four of the last five years and six of the last eight, losing by one game each in 2014 and 2016.

Texas dropped two of three in San Francisco this weekend to fall to 3-5 on the season, all in interleague play. Last season, Rangers pitchers posted a 5.29 ERA against divisional foes, fifth-highest in MLB and the club's highest since 2003 (5.41).

Oakland took the last three games of a four-game set in Seattle this weekend, including an 11-1 win on Monday in which it slugged 12 hits and 11 walks. The A's .204 average this season ranks 26th in MLB, but their 45 walks rank fourth.

Joey Gallo went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run in Sunday's win in San Francisco and is slugging .724 this season, sixth best among AL qualifiers. Gallo has slashed .230/.352/.507 in 49 career games against Oakland and his 12 home runs are tied for his second most against any opponent (14 vs. Mariners).

Ramon Laureano leads the A's with a .324 average and is the only Athletic with multiple home runs this season, having hit two, including one in Sunday's win. He has a .346 career average with seven home runs in his 23 games against the Rangers.

Lance Lynn will toe the rubber for the Rangers in the series opener having allowed just three hits in 12 innings so far this season. He looks to join Jesse Chavez last season as the only pitchers in club history to allow two hits or fewer in each of his first three starts of a season; Chavez served as an "opener" in his first three starts last season.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)  Walkoff grand slams are becoming such old hat for the Oakland Athletics this season that they have learned to celebrate in a more socially distant manner.
Stephen Piscotty hit Oakland's second game-ending slam of the year and the A's beat the Texas Rangers 5-1 Tuesday night for their fourth straight win.
