 This is the fourth World Series Game 7 in six years and the first of any kind for the Nationals/Expos franchise. The Nats had been 0-3 all-time in winner-take-all playoff games before winning a pair this year - the NL Wild-Card Game against the Brewers and Game 5 of the NLDS against the Dodgers.

 Houston is 4-2 in winner-take-all playoff games, and all of them were decided by at least three runs. This is the fourth Game 7 in Astros history, having lost the first one to St. Louis in the 2004 NLCS before winning a pair in 2017 in the ALCS against the Yankees and the World Series against the Dodgers.

 The Nationals are looking to join the 1996 Yankees as the only teams ever to win eight road games in a single postseason. Washington pitchers have held opponents to a .183 batting average on the road, third lowest all-time among teams to play at least five road games in a postseason.

 The Astros have a .470 slugging percentage in this series, the highest by any team in a World Series since the 2008 Phillies slugged .482. The last team to slug .470 or better in a World Series and not win it was the Giants (.498) in 2002, when Barry Bonds slugged 1.294 and the rest of the team was at .436.

 When Anthony Rendon reached base for the fourth time in Game 6, it marked the 30th time in MLB history a player has reached base 30 times in a single postseason. Jose Altuve is one shy of doing it for a second time (2017); the only players to reach base 30 times in a postseason more than once are Derek Jeter (3), David Ortiz (3), Albert Pujols (2) and Manny Ramirez (2).

 Among pitchers with at least 10 playoff starts, Max Scherzer's 11.27 strikeouts per nine innings rank No. 1 all-time and his .193 opponent batting average is second behind Gerrit Cole (.175). Scherzer can join Michael Wacha (2013) as the only pitchers in the past decade to win four straight starts in a postseason.

HOUSTON -- There was no logical explanation to be shared, so Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez didn't allot too much time attempting to decipher something both historic and unfathomable.
With the Nationals' 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday, the visiting teams improved to 6-0, a first in postseason history. Washington will attempt to complete the road sweep Wednesday in Game 7 of the Fall Classic, a result that would give the franchise its first championship.
