 The Astros took a 3-1 series lead over the Yankees with an 8-3 win in Game 4. Since the League Championship Series moved to a best-of-seven format in 1985, teams leading an LCS series, 3-1, have advanced to the World Series 82.5 percent of the time (33/40).

 The Yankees have trailed 3-1 in a postseason series three times in team history: 1942 World Series, 1958 World Series and 2010 ALCS. New York went 1-2 in those series, with its only series win coming in the 1958 World Series against the Braves. The Astros have led 3-1 in a postseason series once previously, defeating the Cardinals in six games in the 2005 NLCS.

 George Springer and Carlos Correa each hit a three-run home run in Game 4, marking the sixth time they have both homered in the same postseason game, the most by any pair of teammates in MLB postseason history. Springer's home run was his 41st of the season out of the leadoff spot, the most in MLB history in a season (reg & post). The previous record was 40, by Springer himself in 2017.

 First baseman DJ LeMahieu and second baseman Gleyber Torres each made two errors for the Yankees in Game 4. It was the first time in MLB postseason history that a team recorded four errors from the right side of its infield (1B/2B) in a single game.

 Justin Verlander will be making his fifth career start in a potential postseason series-clinching game; his teams are 2-2 thus far in such games, including a loss in Game 4 of this year's ALDS against the Rays. Verlander has a 2.03 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP and 35 strikeouts in 26.2 innings over his previous four potential postseason series-clinching starts.

 In New York's Game 2 loss against Houston, James Paxton lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing four hits, two walks, and one run. Including the postseason, Jose Altuve owns a career .344/.432/.563 slash line with a pair of home runs against Paxton. George Springer has three career home runs against Paxton, tying him with Mookie Betts and Albert Pujols for the most hit by any player against Paxton in his career.
