 After losing seven of the first 10 meetings, the Diamondbacks have rebounded to win five of six against the Padres. Arizona has won four straight home matchups while batting .333 and averaging 7.0 runs. The Diamondbacks have won the season series each of the last three years.

 San Diego managed three hits off Clayton Kershaw and four relievers Thursday in a 1-0 loss, its 12th in 14 games. The Padres are a defeat away from their fourth consecutive 90-loss season and will miss the playoffs for the 13th straight season. That's the third-longest active drought in MLB (Seattle - 18, Miami -- 16).

 Arizona took two of three from St. Louis, following Tuesday's 19-inning win with a 9-7 victory Wednesday. The Diamondbacks will have a third straight winning season, a first for the franchise since a run of five consecutive winning campaigns from 1999-2003.

 Eric Lauer, Friday's scheduled starter, has a 6.27 ERA in 14 road starts and a 3.08 mark in 14 at home for a +3.19 differential that is the fourth-largest in the majors (min. 25 overall starts). Lauer has failed to complete five innings in four of his last six away starts.

 Since August 21, Jarrod Dyson is 7-for-71 (.099) for the second-lowest average in the majors (Parra, .085), (min. 50 PA). Dyson's .599 OPS since the start of 2018 is the fourth-worst in the majors and his .216 average during that span ranks as the fifth-worst in the NL (min. 500 PA).

 Manny Machado is slashing .186/.285/.331 at home against NL West opponents while slashing .287/.364/.529 on the road against division foes. He finished his first season at Petco Park batting .219 after he hit .295 at home in his first sevens with Baltimore and the Dodgers.

Rod Barajas suffered a 6-3 loss Friday in the Padres' first visit to Arizona since he took over as San Diego manager, but his good memories of his opposing team -- and his sense of humor -- were unharmed.
Barajas played five seasons with the Diamondbacks after signing as a free agent in 1996, and one of his biggest moments came when he homered off Yankees right-hander Mike Mussina on a 1-2 knuckle curve in Game 5 of the 2001 World Series, which Arizona won in seven games despite losing that fifth game.

Ray, Richards meet again as D-backs host Padres

PHOENIX (AP)  Christian Walker crushed Triple-A pitching for the better part of four seasons, wondering if he'd ever get the chance to do the same thing in the big leagues. Finally, some playing time opened with the Arizona Diamondbacks this spring.
With each passing homer, it's obvious the 28-year-old has seized his opportunity.
