 The Astros and Angels meet for four games in Anaheim, with Houston holding an 11-4 advantage in the season series. The Astros are averaging 7.47 runs against the Angels this year, and have plated at least 10 runs six times, tied for their most double-digit scoring efforts in a single season against a single opponent after also having six such games against the Pirates in 2000.

 The Angels have allowed 110 earned runs to the Astros this season, one shy of the most in a season against any opponent in franchise history. They permitted 111 to the Rangers in 2012.

 Alex Bregman has a 30-game on-base streak against L.A. -- the longest active on-base streak against the Angels -- while Yuli Gurriel has a 17-game hitting streak vs. L.A. -- also the longest active hitting streak against the Angels. Gurriel is batting .448 with eight homers, 23 RBI and 19 runs during his hitting streak.

 Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander are up to 604 strikeouts, becoming just the third pitching duo since 1920 to surpass the 600-strikeout mark. The other two duos are Randy Johnson and Curt Shilling, combining for 665 strikeouts in 2001 and 650 Ks in 2002, and Nolan Ryan and Bill Singer for the 1973 Angels with 624.

 Kole Calhoun is batting .321 and slugging .547 with 10 runs in 14 games against the Astros this season. He is hitting .225 and slugging .466 in his other 134 games.

 Jaime Barria was tagged for six runs in 2 2/3 innings in a 6-4 loss at Houston last Friday, extending the Angels' losing streak in his starts to eight. This is the Angels' longest losing streak in an individual pitcher's starts since losing 10 straight Ricky Nolasco starts in 2017, which is tied for the longest in franchise history along with John Farrell in 1993.

The Houston Astros announced that shortstop Carlos Correa not only will miss Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels, he'll also miss the games through the weekend because of a sore back.
While the club is hoping that Correa will be able to play once the Astros begin the playoffs on Oct. 4, they have plenty of other offensive threats they can rely on if Correa is not able to play.
