 Pete Alonso has 11 hits and three walks in his last four games for a total of 14 times on base, tied for the third most in the majors this season in a four-game span. (Austin Meadows, 16; Charlie Blackmon, 15). He has three multi-hit games in his last four contests after having three in his previous 32 games.

 Wilson Ramos enters the series on a 13-game hit streak, leads all MLB catchers with 24 hits in August and is second among catchers with 15 RBI this month (James McCann, 16). Ramos is slashing .407/.444/.593 in August and has a career OPS of .833 against the Indians.

The New York Mets have climbed back into playoff contention thanks to a much-improved bullpen. The Cleveland Indians are going to need a similar transformation by closer Brad Hand if they are going to hang on to a postseason spot.
The surging Mets will look to complete a three-game sweep of its interleague series with visiting Indians on Thursday night,  sending Noah Syndergaard (8-6, 3.86 ERA) to the mound to face rookie Aaron Civale (1-2, 1.50) in a battle of right-handers.

NEW YORK (AP)  The only thing that stopped Noah Syndergaard was the weather.
Syndergaard retired the first 16 hitters and allowed two hits over six dominant innings before a heavy storm interrupted him, and the New York Mets beat the Cleveland Indians 2-0 Thursday night in a rain-shortened game for their fifth straight win.
