 After winning six consecutive games, Seattle is 1-8 since July 31. The Mariners are averaging 2.67 runs while hitting .186 since then -- both are the worst in baseball.

 The Tigers have scored just two runs while striking out 24 times in their last two games. They have only won two games this season when scoring two or fewer runs, with both coming in their first seven games of the season (March 28 and April 3).

 The Mariners are 14-4 against the Tigers since 2017 as Detroit's bullpen has posted a 7.08 ERA in that time. Seattle has outscored Detroit by 33 runs in the seventh inning or later since then.

 Since the All-Star break, Yusei Kikuchi has received 1.82 runs of support on average, third lowest in MLB (minimum 20 innings). He did not get a decision on July 26 in a 3-2 win over Detroit despite holding the Tigers to two runs over 6.2 innings; the Mariners scored all of their runs after Kikuchi left the game.

 Matthew Boyd struck out just one batter in his last start, lasting just 2.2 innings while allowing five earned runs. However, his 12.03 strikeout per nine rate this season is on pace to be the highest in a single season in Detroit's history (among qualifiers).

 Both the Mariners and Tigers have had their rookies pitch in 175 games this season, which is tied for the most such games in MLB.
