 These teams split a four-game set in Houston in April, with Cleveland winning the first two games of the series, and the Astros taking the final two. This is the first trip back to Progressive Field for the Astros since wrapping up a three-game sweep in Game 3 of the 2018 ALDS with an 11-3 victory.

 Cleveland is an AL-best 12-5 since the All-Star break, while Houston has the second-best record in the junior circuit over that time at 11-6. Dating back to June 1, Cleveland is an MLB-best 34-14 (.708) with the top run differential in the majors over that time (+80).

 In 28 career regular season starts at Progressive Field, Justin Verlander has a 5.56 ERA, his highest at any park in which he has made at least 10 starts. Verlander has struck out more than 10 batters in each of his last two starts -- the only time he went three straight starts with more than 10 K's was in May 2009.

The Cleveland Indians are expected to feature a few new wrinkles in their lineup on Thursday as they host the rubber match of their three-game series against the Houston Astros.
Trade deadline acquisitions Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes likely will be in the lineup for the Indians, who answered a two-hit showing in the series opener with four homers -- including two by Roberto Perez -- in Wednesday's 10-4 victory.

CLEVELAND (AP)  Gerrit Cole didn't lose a game in June or July and continued his remarkable run on the first day of August.
Cole pitched one-run ball over seven innings and extended his winning streak to a career-best nine games as the Houston Astros beat the Indians 7-1 on Thursday, spoiling the Cleveland debut of Yasiel Puig and the return of Danny Salazar.
