 St. Louis and San Francisco meet for the first time this season. The Cardinals have won nine of the last 12 meetings between the two teams, with their starting pitchers boasting a 2.93 ERA over that stretch. Miles Mikolas, scheduled to start Saturday, has a 1.46 ERA in five career appearances against the Giants.

 The Giants have scored 40 combined runs in their last four games for the second time in the last 15 seasons (40 in 2014). Their four-game streak of scoring at least seven runs is San Francisco's longest since 2006.

 Entering the series, the Cardinals have scored five or fewer runs in 11 straight games, the longest active streak in baseball and the franchise's longest such streak since 2016 (13 games). Madison Bumgarner and Paul Goldschmidt continue their long rivalry Saturday night when the San Francisco Giants host the St. Louis Cardinals on the second day of a three-game series.
Goldschmidt took over the lead among active Giants opponents in home runs at Oracle Park (12) with a two-run shot in the first inning Friday night, helping propel the Cardinals to a 9-4 win in the series opener.

'I'm same guy,' Bumgarner says ahead of start vs. Cards

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)  The swelling near Madison Bumgarner's pitching elbow was still noticeable, more than three hours after the Giants' left-hander was drilled by a 98 mph line drive.
''It looks nasty, but as far as what it feels like, it never tightened up, it never got sore,'' said Bumgarner, who wore a long grey therapeutic sleeve after the game. ''It feels swollen, that's it. It's good though.''
