Houston has taken six of the seven meetings with Seattle so far this season, but this weekend marks the teams' first meeting in Houston this season. The Mariners won seven of nine games in Houston last season, holding the Astros to just 29 runs over the nine games.

Seattle took two out of three in Milwaukee and has won six of its last eight games. The Mariners are averaging 5.84 runs per game this month - second most in the AL (Yankees, 6.13) - after averaging 4.07 runs per game in May; only the Braves (+2.34) have a larger month-to-month improvement.

The Astros dropped the final two games of a three-game set against the Pirates and have fallen to just 2-9 since June 16, averaging just 3.18 runs per game in that span -- only Detroit is lower at 2.89. Meanwhile, they've allowed 6.55 runs per game in that time, second only to Baltimore (8.50).

Former Astro Domingo Santana picked up his 60th RBI of the season on Tuesday, giving him a share of the AL lead. The RBI came in his 79th game, making him the second fastest to reach 60 RBI as a Mariner, behind only Alvin Davis (73 games in 1984).

Wade Miley will face his former team for the third time this season, allowing six runs on nine hits over a combined nine innings pitched in the other two starts (both no-decisions). Miley has held AL West foes to a .208 average against him this season, while all other opponents are hitting .247.

Since going 0-for-4 in his first game back from the IL on June 19, Jose Altuve has recorded a hit in each of his last seven games, hitting a combined 11-for-31 (.355) over that span. He was hitting .243 in 39 games to start the season before hitting the IL with a hamstring injury.

When things were going horribly for the Astros, with their seven-game losing skid last week cutting into their sizable lead in the American League West, their offense was the primary concern.
The Astros averaged just 2.7 runs during their skid and followed that stretch of futility by totaling just two runs over the final two games of their series with the Pittsburgh Pirates, absorbing 14-2 and 10-0 losses that resulted in their first home series setback this season.

Astros look for sweep, more offense vs. Mariners

HOUSTON (AP)  After sitting out two days nursing a sore left knee, Yordan Alvarez didn't waste any time getting back to work in his return to the Houston Astros' lineup on Sunday.
The rookie drove in three runs to back up seven strong innings by Gerrit Cole and help the Astros to a 6-1 win over the Seattle Mariners to complete a three-game sweep.
