The Indians have won five of six meetings this season against the Tigers -- all in Detroit -- with their pitchers posting a 1.70 ERA, eight walks and 61 strikeouts. Cleveland collected 40 hits during a three-game sweep at Comerica Park last week, its most in any series in 2019.

Detroit has lost five of six and is 4-12 in June, a mark better than only Baltimore (3-12) in the majors. The Tigers have lost 18 of 25 against the Indians since the start of last season and had dropped 10 straight at Progressive Field before winning two of three there from September 14-16, 2018.

Matthew Boyd's 112 strikeouts through 15 starts this season ranks fifth in the live-ball era among Tigers pitchers. He trails only Mickey Lolich (124 in 1969), Max Scherzer (122 in 2013), Justin Verlander (118 in 2009) and Hal Newhouser (113 in 1946).

Oscar Mercado has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, batting .375 with 13 runs, three homers and nine RBI. His .316 average through 30 games is the second-highest by an Indians rookie since 2000 (Ryan Garko, .320 in 2005-06).

The Tigers are one of three teams in MLB this season without a player with double-digit home runs (Giants and Marlins). Detroit has scored just 36.3 percent of its runs via the home run this season, the third-lowest percentage in the majors (MLB average = 44.7 percent).

Mike Clevinger, scheduled to start Saturday for Cleveland, is 3-0 with a 0.51 ERA in three career home starts against the Tigers. Clevinger has held Nicholas Castellanos and Miguel Cabrera to a combined 4-for-31 (.129) lifetime.

Bauer will be looking for an encore when the Indians open a three-game homestand against their Central Division rival on Friday.

CLEVELAND (AP)  Tyler Naquin started Cleveland's comeback with a home run and ended Detroit's with a game-saving defensive play.
Naquin made a diving catch in right field to start an incredible double play in the ninth inning, and the Indians hung on for a 7-6 win over the Tigers on Friday night.
