 The Mariners have won nine consecutive games against the Royals, including a four-game sweep in Kansas City in April. A win tonight would tie the Mariners for their longest win streak all-time against any single opponent (10 straight wins vs. Orioles from 2000-01 and vs. Royals in 1985).

 The Royals are 3-3 in their last six games -- over this time, Kansas City's starters have pitched to a 2.52 ERA while holding opponents to a .186 batting average. The Royals entered June with a 5.53 ERA by their starting pitchers -- since June 1, Kansas City's starting staff has a 3.86 ERA.

 The Mariners finished a nine-game road trip against the Angels, Twins and A's with a 5-4 record. Seattle has played the toughest schedule in MLB this season (based on current records) with its opponents combining for a .536 win percentage.

 Since the start of 2017, Whit Merrifield has 450 hits, most in the AL and third most in the majors behind Charlie Blackmon (477) and Nolan Arenado (451). Merrifield's 224 hits on the road over that time also rank third in the majors behind Christian Yelich (230) and Jose Altuve (225).

 In nine career appearances (seven starts) against the Mariners, Danny Duffy has a 2.54 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 39.0 innings. Tommy Milone has not faced the Royals since 2016 when he was a Twin -- overall, Milone has a 3.66 ERA across 71.1 career innings against Kansas City.

 Jorge Soler has nine first-pitch home runs to lead the majors this season. His total is already tied for the most first-pitch home runs by a Royals player in a single season in the pitch-count era (since 1988) with Danny Tartabull (1988), Bo Jackson (1990) and Mike Sweeney (2004).

When the Kansas City Royals took two of three games from the Detroit Tigers last week, including the finale played in Omaha, Neb., they won their first series since early April and snapped an 0-14-2 series skid.
Entering the finale of a three-game set Wednesday afternoon in Seattle, the Royals have already claimed that series, as well -- their first road series win this season.

Series already in hand, KC goes for sweep in Seattle

SEATTLE (AP)  Mariners manager Scott Servais had an idea his struggling team was poised for a big performance.
''The guys weren't real happy with how we played this last couple of days,'' Servais said after Seattle's 8-2 win Wednesday over the Kansas City Royals. ''You could feel it in the clubhouse when you came in this morning and we responded.''
