 The Indians took both series from the Rangers last season, 2-1 each time. Cleveland had 12 or more hits in five of the six games, its most such games in a single-season against a non-divisional opponent since 2006 against the A's, when it had 12-plus hits in five of nine games played.

 The Indians swept the Tigers in Detroit, their first sweep since mid-April (three-game sweep in Seattle). Cleveland had 40 hits over the three games, its most in any series this season.

 The Rangers took two of three from the Reds in Cincinnati over the weekend to finish their road trip with a 4-3 mark. Texas is 14-5 at home since May 4, the second-best home record over that span behind the Dodgers, 16-4.

 Oscar Mercado went 7-for-15 against the Tigers, with multiple hits in each game. Mercado has 30 hits through 26 career games, all this season with Cleveland. The last Cleveland hitter to reach 30 career hits in 26 or fewer games was Michael Brantley, who reached 30 hits in his 21st game in 2009.

 Elvis Andrus has slashed .372/.439/.542 in 288 career plate appearances against Cleveland. His batting average is the third highest by any player against Cleveland in the live-ball era behind Oddibe McDowell, .405, and Nomar Garciaparra, .374 (minimum 150 plate appearances).

 Mike Clevinger will be making his first start since returning from injury. Clevinger has allowed one hit and no runs in his only two starts of the season. The last Indians starter to allow zero runs in three consecutive starts to begin a season was Luis Tiant in 1966.

Indians' Bauers thriving on road, faces Rangers again

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  Jason Kipnis is finding it difficult not to get excited after struggling at the plate for much of the season.
The veteran second baseman hit two home runs, going back-to-back with Roberto Perez during a five-run first inning, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Texas Rangers 10-4 on Wednesday night.
