 Boston has won six in a row over Texas, and since 2016 the Red Sox have gone 14-5 against the Rangers, hitting .297 and scoring 6.5 runs per game. This is the Red Sox' best record against any AL opponent since 2016 and the Rangers worst record against an AL opponent.

 The Red Sox lost three of four to the Rays, slashing .189/.246/.268 as a team and scoring just nine runs over the four games combined. The franchise has not scored fewer runs in a four-game series since July 2015 (four versus Angels).

 The Rangers' .293 batting average in June leads MLB, and their 52 runs are one shy of the MLB-leading Angels. The team has had 10+ hits in six of nine games in June, but they are only 3-3 in those games.

 Shin-soo Choo has gone 2-for-26 in his career against Chris Sale. That .077 batting average is Choo's worst career mark against any pitcher he's faced at least 25 times, and Chris Sale has only held one hitter (Austin Jackson, .053) to a lower career average (minimum 25 PA).

Red Sox ask Sale to play stopper against Rangers

BOSTON (AP)  Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora started to feel it, with his ballclub loading the bases in the 10th inning after rallying to tie it in the ninth.
''This is kind of what David used to do,'' Cora said on a night when the game seemed secondary to his concern over former teammate David Ortiz. ''It's one of those days you don't want to be a part of, honestly. But we have a job to do.''
