 Baltimore won two of three in each of its last two series against San Francisco (in 2013 and 2016), and these teams have only ever met for one series in Baltimore (in June 2004). The Giants won two of three, scoring 20 runs on 32 hits in the series.

 The Giants snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Marlins yesterday, but San Francisco has scored four runs or fewer in 11 straight games, the longest such streak in MLB this season.

 The Orioles pitching staff has held opponents to a .254 batting average in May after allowing a .283 BAA in April. This is the third-largest improvement in MLB from April to May behind only the A's and Phillies.

 Steven Duggar leads the Giants with 48 hits this season, the lowest total of any team leader in MLB. Duggar has gone 3-for-32 (.094) in interleague games this season.

BALTIMORE (AP)  Former major leaguer Dwight Smith Sr. rose to his feet and emphatically pumped his fist as the ball cleared the center field fence. His son not only ignited the home crowd, he also paved the way for one of the biggest wins of the season for the Baltimore Orioles.
Dwight Smith Jr.'s first career grand slam capped a six-run outburst in the first inning and the Orioles outslugged the San Francisco Giants 9-6 Friday night.
