 The Mets have won seven straight over the Marlins dating back to September 2018, tied for the second-longest active winning streak between any two divisional opponents -- only the Dodgers (eight vs. Rockies) have a longer active streak.

 The Miami Marlins have hit one home run in May. Every other MLB team has hit at least nine -- two teams are in the 30s, nine teams are in the 20s. The Marlins have lost a season-high seven straight games -- only four teams have had longer streaks in MLB this season.

 The Mets' 3.02 team ERA in May ranks fifth in MLB after its 5.42 ERA in April ranked 28th in MLB. Among teams with an ERA in the top half of MLB this month, the Mets (5-8) and A's (6-7) are the only ones with losing records.

 Brandon Nimmo has walked nine times since May 7, tied for second in MLB (Paul DeJong, 10). Nimmo is hitting .198 this season with a .349 OBP -- this is the third-largest difference between AVG and OBP among MLB qualifiers this season (Mike Trout, Justin Smoak).

 Jorge Alfaro had two doubles last time out after going 0-for-16 in his previous five games. These were his first two doubles of the season. Alfaro had eight multi-hit games in April but this was just his second in May.

 The Mets have three MLB qualifiers with an OPS of at least .900 (Conforto, McNeil, Alonso) -- the Cubs and Astros (four apiece) are the only other teams with as many as the Mets. The Marlins are one of four teams to have no MLB qualifiers with an OPS of at least .800.

DeGrom, who will face the host Miami Marlins on Friday, won his first Cy Young Award last season by virtue of his incredibly dominant 1.70 ERA, a 0.912 WHIP and 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

MIAMI (AP)  Leaving the mound for the final time Friday night, Jacob deGrom broke into a jog as he reached the steps to the clubhouse and disappeared, eager to put the game behind him as quickly as possible.
The Miami Marlins scored for the first time in 27 innings, pounded deGrom for seven runs and snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating the New York Mets 8-6.
