 All three games between these NL West rivals earlier this month were decided in the ninth inning - the Dodgers rallied to win the first two before the Padres won the finale on Hunter Renfroe's walk-off grand slam. That is one of only six San Diego victories in the teams' last 25 meetings.

 Padres pitchers entered this month with the fifth-best opponent batting average in the majors at .224 but have the fifth worst in May at .276. Their .338 opponent BABIP this month is the worst in baseball.

 Los Angeles pitchers have not allowed a run in three of the last six games. The Dodgers haven't blanked their opponent four times in a seven-game span since June 2014.

 Clayton Kershaw started and won two of those shutouts in 2014, but he hasn't held the opposition scoreless in any of his last 19 starts. That's one shy of the longest such streak of his career; he gave up at least one run in 20 straight starts bridging the 2014 and '15 seasons.

 Chris Paddack has not allowed a run in two of his last three starts, dropping his ERA to 1.55 -- the lowest through seven major league starts in Padres history. The only pitchers this decade to have a lower ERA through their first seven starts in the majors are Alex Colome (1.13) and Kyle Hendricks (1.48).

 The Padres have lost eight straight series at Dodger Stadium. The only team with a longer active series losing streak in any ballpark is the Rockies' run of nine straight series losses at Busch Stadium.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will try a rotation shuffle Wednesday night when they conclude a brief two-game series and a long nine-game homestand with a matchup against the San Diego Padres.
An improved Kenta Maeda (4-2, 4.03 ERA) was moved into Wednesday's starting slot ahead of a struggling Rich Hill, who was moved back to Friday's opener of a series at Cincinnati.
