 The Angels beat the Tigers, 13-0, in Detroit on Thursday, winning the rubber match of a three-game set. It was their most wins this season, and their largest win since another 13-0 win in Kansas City on July 26, 2016.

 The Orioles fell to the Red Sox, 2-1, in 12 innings at home on Wednesday, dropping the last two of the three-game series. It was their first loss this season when allowing fewer than four runs.

 Los Angeles won five of the six games between these teams last season, and is 9-3 against Baltimore in the last two seasons, including a 4-2 mark at Camden Yards. Baltimore has been held to four or fewer runs in eight of the 12 games, losing all of them.

 Trevor Cahill will start for the Angels, after allowing six runs (all earned) on six hits in 3.1 innings in his last start against Houston. Cahill owns a career 1.97 ERA against Baltimore, second lowest among active pitchers with at least 30 IP (Mike Clevinger, 1.80).

 Dan Straily allowed five runs (all earned) on nine hits in 4.1 innings against the Rays in his last start, the third time in six games this season he's allowed at least five earned runs. The rest of the Orioles' pitching staff has just five such games, with no other pitcher having more than one.

 Tommy La Stella hit two home runs in the win over Detroit on Thursday, his third multi-homer game this season, tied with Arizona's Ketel Marte for the most in baseball. La Stella's games have come from the 7, 8 and 9 positions in the lineup -- just the third time in MLB history someone has done that in one season (also Russell Martin in 2011 with the Yankees, and Joey Gallo in 2017 with the Rangers).
