 The Reds and the Pirates opened the season facing each other and splitting a pair of games. Since that series, Cincinnati was swept in a three-game series with the Brewers, and Pittsburgh dropped two straight games against the Cardinals.

 During its current four-game losing streak, Cincinnati is batting .152 (19-for-125) with six runs scored and one home run. During this stretch, the Reds are batting .125 (3-for-24) with runners in scoring position.

 Through four games this season, Pittsburgh's starting pitching has posted a 1.88 ERA and a .167 batting average against. Pittsburgh's bullpen, on the other hand, has posted a 5.79 ERA with two blown saves in two opportunities.

 Tyler Mahle will be getting his first start of the season for Cincinnati. Over his last five starts of 2018, Mahle went 0-3 with a 14.49 ERA and a .420 opponent batting average.

 Jordan Lyles will make his Pirates debut tonight. Lyles made 35 appearances (eight starts) between the Padres and the Brewers last year -- as a starter last year, Lyles had a 4.79 ERA in 47.0 innings and as a reliever, he posted a 3.32 ERA in 40.0 innings.

 Jung Ho Kang hit his first home run of the season yesterday, his first home run in the majors since October 1, 2016. Kang has had success against the Reds throughout his career, posting a .309/.409/.596 slash line with 15 extra-base hits and 19 RBI in 110 plate appearances.

PITTSBURGH (AP)  Yasiel Puig looked eager to take a big swing. And not with a bat, either.
An enraged Puig barreled into a bunch of Pirates during a bench-clearing fracas Sunday, and was among five ejections in Pittsburgh's 7-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
