Houston won the season series with Oakland last season, 12-7. However, the series was even in the 10 games played at Minute Maid Park, with the Astros scoring 5.2 runs per game compared to 7.0 runs per game in the nine games played in Oakland.

The Athletics won their last series with the Red Sox, 3-1, as they held the defending champions to just nine runs in the four-game set. The A's have allowed a total of 18 runs in their first two home series after allowing 14 runs in their two-game opening series with the Mariners in Japan.

The Astros have started 2-5 for the first time since 2013, the season they lost a franchise-record 111 games. The last team to win 100+ games in back-to-back seasons and start 2-5 (or worse) in the next season was the 1977 Reds.

Stephen Piscotty went 4-for-4 with five RBI in Oakland's win over Boston on Thursday. It was his third game with at least five RBI dating back to September 1 of last season, most in MLB. The only other player with multiple five-RBI games since then is the Dodgers' Cody Bellinger (two).

Carlos Correa notched his 500th career hit on Wednesday against the Rangers. He is one of five Astros with 500 hits before his 25th birthday (also Cesar Cedeno, Rusty Staub, Terry Puhl and Jose Altuve).

Alex Bregman (.346) and Jose Altuve (.331) rank first and second among active players in highest career batting average against Oakland (min. 150 PA). Bregman hit six home runs against the A's last season, his most against any opponent and tied for the most by any player against Oakland (also Texas' Joey Gallo).

The rumblings started the second Astros shortstop Carlos Correa had his name omitted from the starting lineup in the season opener at Tampa Bay, with some wondering if his injury history would continue to serve as an impediment to his development.
But after missing the first three games of a four-game set against the Rays, Correa returned for the series finale last Sunday and has looked like himself over the five games he has played this season, including Friday when he slugged his first home run in a 3-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics in the opener of a three-game weekend set and six-game homestand.

HOUSTON (AP)  Astros manager AJ Hinch wasn't that concerned with the slump Michael Brantley was in early in his first season with Houston.
Still, it was nice to see him break out of it to help the Astros to a 6-0 win over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night.
