 The Diamondbacks won seven of ten games against the Padres in San Diego last season. That was Arizona's second-best record in San Diego in any season (1999; 5-1).

 The Diamondbacks dropped three of four games to the Dodgers in Los Angeles to open the season. Arizona surrendered 42 runs over the series. It was the most allowed by a National League team through four games of a season since the 1954 Cardinals gave up 47 runs.

 The Padres won three of four games against the Giants in San Diego to open the season despite scoring only 11 runs in total. San Diego had not had a winning record through its first four games of the season since 2011 (3-1).

 Merrill Kelly will be making his big league debut. Arizona's starting pitchers have a combined 10.31 ERA over four starts, the third-highest mark in MLB.

 Matt Strahm made five starts and 36 relief appearances for the Padres last season. He limited hitters to a .455 OPS as a starter and .593 OPS as a reliever. His combined .564 opponent OPS was the 11th best in the National League (minimum 50 innings pitched).

 Christian Walker had two home runs and five RBI in seven plate appearances against the Dodgers. Walker had three home runs and six RBI in 53 plate appearances last season.

Padres manager Andy Green admitted being concerned Monday as the Padres started a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in San Diego.
"Arizona has a team more contoured to success against left-handed pitchers than San Francisco," he said earlier in the week. "That's not a knock on the Giants, it's just how different teams are designed."
