 The Mets won 12 of their 17 games against the Marlins last season. That matches the most wins the Mets have had against the Marlins in a single season (2001, 2012 and 2016).

 The Mets took two of three games from the Nationals in Washington, D.C. in their season-opening series. The last two times the Mets beat the Nationals in the first series of the season, they went on to win the division (2006 and 2015).

 The Marlins split a four-game series with the Rockies in Miami after dropping the first two games of the series. Miami had 16 hits in the third game of the series and 11 hits total in the other three games.

 Stephen Matz will be making his first start of the season. He was 5-11 with a 3.97 ERA in a career-high 154.0 innings pitched last season. Matz is 3-0 in with a 0.88 ERA in his last five starts against the Marlins.

 Caleb Smith was limited to half a season in 2018 due to injury. At the time of his injury he had compiled a 4.19 ERA. However, his ERA in seven home starts was 3.13 and his ERA in nine away starts was 5.18.

 JT Riddle has two hits this season and both of them are home runs. The last Marlin to start a season with a home run as each of his first two hits was Brad Penny in 2003. The last Marlin position player to do so was Derrek Lee in 2002.

Miami Marlins starter Jose Urena will look to bounce back from a painful Opening Day start when he opposes the New York Mets on Tuesday night.
Urena, who started on Opening Day for the second straight season, gave up four earned runs in his 4 2/3 innings against the Colorado Rockies. All four came after the right-hander was hit on the left leg by David Dahl's line drive in the second inning, which caused some tightness and swelling.
